Kirunasektionen was created in 1999 as a collaboration between the student unions TKL, at Luleå University of Technology and NTK, at Umeå University. In 2010, because of program relocations and a drop in students, NTK left the collaboration and the guild is now only open to students at Luleå University of Tecknology. Students of UMU are still welcome as support members though (read more under Membership).

Our main purpose is to be student liasons officers and to ensure the quality of the education. We work between the school, student union, teachers and students to come up with solutions that improve the quality and environment for everyone. This is helped by students performing course evaulations and informing their program trustees (link to other members of trust) or the board memebers directly of dåligheter. (going to student guild meetings and becoming members) This could be everything from a teacher not following the course plan or breaking the students rights (link to student rights) to it being too cold or hot in the class rooms.
